Welcome to Desert Jet - Week One + Two

Week One + Two

5/21 - 6/1

Two things I love, the Desert and Airplanes.
You may ask who can supply that? Desert Jet, of course!

What is Desert Jet?

Desert Jet is an aircraft charter, maintenance and aircraft handling company at the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport(TRM) in Palm Springs. Services offered include FBO services, aircraft charter, management, jet maintenance, acquisitions, and sales of business jet aircraft. Desert Jet is a place where the staff will greet you with exceptional smiles and professionalism!

Week One

My first week was spent in each department of the overall company. Desert Jet is made up of the FBO(Fixed Base Operator), Charter and Sales, and Aircraft Maintenance. I was able to shadow each department and choose which department to start my summer.

I have started learning and training in the FBO. Thus far, I have been working the front desk, greeting guests, accepting projects, and being a part of the 'behind the scenes' operations.

When guests show up it does become a whirlwind in the 'office'. Staff is greeting guests, one is holding the door, another is answering phones, line is helping load baggage, pilots are preparing for the flight, and radios are active!
It's organized chaos behind the scenes, whereas for the customer it's a breeze to walk in, enjoy amenities, and board the flight.
After the plane takes off, everything is put back in place for the next guest to walk though the door.

This is just a snippet of what goes on in the FBO.

Some days are less busy and I am able to help with the communication that happens between base and line while awaiting an aircraft arrival as well as preparing guest vehicles.
There are many online systems used in the FBO and I am in the process of learning to utilize all the resources.

This week I've also had the opportunity to help in the revamping the conference room. I worked with the marketing chair to choose items and continue to help as it is a work in progress.

Now, we do have fun at Desert Jet. This past Wednesday the company played laser tag and WOW is everyone competitive! It was a great way to get to know more people in the company and have some fun!

In short, I started the week learning technical operations for the FBO, learning the cleaning processes(everyone needs a clean environment!), and doing things that Desert Jet is known for such as picking up a cake in PSP for a client with my fellow intern!

Wrapping up this week, I am even more excited to learn more roles in the FBO and to continue working with my Mentor and new friends!
